Shirley's ability to write in numerous genres over a span of several decades has covered everything from country, to jazz, to pop and rock, as well as delving into folk and R & B.

This amazing talent has resulted in her songs being covered by such diverse artists as Bonnie Raitt, Chet Atkins (an instrumental Shirley wrote at age 15!), Cher, Anne Murray, Alannah Myles, Gerald Levert and Eddie Levert Jr, Cybill Shepherd and Ginette Reno, to name but a few.
